Monday Tulips

Darn, its raining this morning, first not-nice day of our trip. Turned out ok, just drizzly at times.

This was the day that started the trip in the first place - a visit to Keukenhof Gardens. To get there, using our new-found expertise on city travel, we took the shuttle van to the airport, then the train to Amsterdam Central Station, then a quick ferry ride across the river to a place called "This is Holland", which is the central meeting point for lots of tourist tours.

Our tour began with a one hour canal cruise and windmill viewing. It was a bit disappointing. We puttered around a canal, past only two windmills, and not very close. Guide was ok. Then we're back on the hop-on hop-off coach for a 15 minute ride to Keukenhof, where we could stay as long as we wanted.

This place is indescribable! Today is actually the last day of the Easter holiday, so it was VERY crowded. Also, the garden is open only for 8 weeks - during the time these spring flowers are in bloom. Hard to imagine that all this can be supported by just 8 weeks!

We were there for about 3 hours, walking all around the paths of spectacular plantings of tulips, daffodils, hyasinths, and more. We never did see it all!

Once we had walked outselfs out, we went back to "This is Holland", ferry back across the river, train to the airport, van to the hotel. Easy peasy!

Long trip home tomorrow!
